However, sometimes the Magic Wand Tool is not able to clear everything up, some small pieces of the background are too difficult to clear them away, so I will have to use the Eraser Tool to clear the small pieces, it is very useful as I can control its size of the eraser, so it is convenient to clear up pieces in any sizes.
For example, from this picture we can see that the small pieces surrounding of the model, which is actually very small, but if we do not clear them up properly, it will affect the next procedure of editing, which is dragging it to the other background, the small pieces will then follow the model to the background and affect how it looks at the end.
This is the Move Tool, this tool is commonly used in editing photos in Photoshop, because we always drag things up and down, left and right.
And in here, I will drag the model to the photo at the right-hand side, so they combine together. I just have to use the Move Tool to drag the model to the picture and press "enter" to apply the transformation to the picture.
This is how it looks after combining together. However, this is too normal and there is nothing special about this picture, therefore, I am going to add some more effects to it.
I will go to the small block at the lower part of the right-hand side, it is the layer block. I will select the layer of the model, which I renamed it as " Smelling the bomb", because it is easier to identify and reminds me of which layer I am working on. Then I would go to "Layers" > " Hard light".
And then I will change the capacity from 100% to 90%.
This is how the picture looks after all these settings, it looks much more dreamy and magical, as if she is dissolving into the water with the bath bomb.
In addition to make it more magical, I searched " Water vignette" from the internet, I then use the Move Tool to drag the vignette into the picture.
But the size of the vignette does not match the picture, so I go to "Edit" > "Transform" > "Scale", it allows me to change the size of the vigenette.
Now, I can easily manage the size of the vignette, I fix the vignette to fit the whole picture, and press "Enter" to apply the vignette. So it will have the special effect on the background of water wave, making the picture more related to the water and giving the audience the idea of this is a bath bomb.
This is the Eliptical Marquee Tool, this tool allows me to crop a eliptical shape from the picture.
I want to make the picture more dreamy and make the audiences focus on the model rather than the background, because I realised that the background color is too eye-catching. Therefore I crop the part of the model by the tool, and I got rid of it.
I then blur the surrounding by going to "Filter" > "Blur" > " Gaussian Blur". So the surrounding is all blurred but not the centre of the part that I have cropped out from the picture.
I could also control the blurriness of the picture by setting it up. The higher the pixels, the blurrier the background. So I set it to 3.5, so that it isn't too blurry that the audiences couldn't see the background, but also making the audiences to focus on the model but not the background.
Here is the Horizontal Type Tool, it allows me to type or add text to the picture.
An advertisement usually has words to guide the audiences of what this poster is about and what it is advertising for, sometimes words strengthen the sensation of the advert.
Therefore, I used the Horizontal Type Tool to add text to my advert. " Dissolve slowly into the universe with The Intergalaxic bomb", I have written this firstly because I want the word to be eye-catching for the audiences, which catches the attention, secondly is because I am advertising Lush's Intergalaxic bath bomb, so I am adding the name of the bath bomb into the text, thirdly is due to bath bombs dissolve slowly into the water, and I would like the audiences to feel the same.
In order to achieve the best looking of the text, here are my settings of the text.
The font, the size and the directions of the text.
Apart from the settings of the text, I double clicked the Layer log, and add some more effects to some of the layer. For the text layer, I add shadows to it so it is more easier to observe and does more effect. I have chosen "Inner glow".
This is how it looks at the end of the settings.
An advert must contain the logo of the brand, it is very important because it simply symbolize the brand by the logo. It gives direct information to the audiences what this advert is advertising for. I used the Magic Wand Tool to cut out and background and I used the Move Tool to drag the logo into the picture.
Same as the procedure above, I go to "Edit" > "Transform" > "Scale", it allows me to change the size of the logo, I didn't want it to be too big and I placed it at the lower right-hand sided corner, as it has a eye-catching black colour, it attracts the attention of the audiences, and a logo usually is small and placed at the corners.
Same as the text, I also add shadows to the logo, first is to make it more eye-catching for the audiences, second is to fit it into the picture better so it doesn't look weird that it is outstanding from the picture.
This is how the advert look at last, it is dreamy, magical and iconic, as I used the dissolving bath bomb as the background, the girl holding the product, the original font from Lush and the logo at the corner of the picture.
Lastly, I will need to save the picture so that the work is done and could be edit anytime when there is a problem, I saved it as "Dissolve" due to its text, and also easier for me to identify it.
For the second print advert, I am going to use this photo which I have taken for my project. I have chosen this photo because I like the face expression of the model, and how she holds the bath bomb as if she is enjoying the scent of it. I believe this photo could help me creating a dreamy effect.
Like the previous photo, I edit the background with the Magic Wand Tool. I delete the part I do not want to keep, so I could change the background color or photo.
I also use the Eraser Tool to remove small parts that have left behind after using the Magic Wand Tool, for example, the small bits near the hair. This is very important because I have to drag her into a new background, and to make sure it looks nice, I must to it carefully.
Other than editing the background, the model must look nice too, so I use the Healing Tool to remove pores from her skin, so she looks better.
In order to make the photo looks dreamy and related to the theme of my project, I have found a photo from the internet of a flower background. It is because in the middle of the Sex bomb, there is a rose in the middle. So to advertise for this bomb, I decided to use rose petals as the background, it also looks dreamy as the colors are light and pink.
Then, I use the Move Tool to drag the model to the background.
Then, I go to "Transform" > "Scale", this allows me to change the size of the model and to drag her to different position.
As we could see, we dragged her to the left hand side, and I expand her size in the picture, from showing the head to the shoulder to showing only the head and some of her shoulder, I have done this because it looks more dreamy and allows audiences to see her face expression clearly.
Then I go to the Layer logs, and select "Soft light", this effect allows the model looks if she is dissolving into the rose petals, it also changes some part of the color to make it more dreamy, which is what I intend to do.
This is how it looks after I apply the effect on the model.
I then go to the internet again to look for a close up of Sex bomb, as this is an advert to advertise the products of Lush, and Sex bomb is the bath bomb that the model is holding, so a close-up of the product should be shown on the advert.
Same with the other pictures, I used the Magic Wand Tool to edit the background of the bath bomb, then using the Move Tool to drag it to the model.
I then go to "Transform" > "Scale" to edit the size of the bath bomb so it is not too big to cover the model and not too small so nobody could see the product. I put it to the right-hand side of the advert so it has its own space for attention and meanwhile does not cover the model.
It looks a bit awkward as the bath bomb does not seem to match with the background, so in order to make it looks better, I go to the Layer log, select the layer of the bath bomb, and double click it. I could drop shadows and add effects to it now, I have selected "Inner glow" so it looks more natural and fits in better with the advert.
After adding the bath bomb in, I realized that it is a bit dull just to put the bath bomb into the advert. So, I searched for some rose photos to make it looks better. I chose roses because of the middle of the bath bomb is a rose, so they relate better and it is more reasonable.
Sometimes, Magic Wand Tool does not do everything, and sometimes they might delete parts that we would like to keep, it is hard to control if I only want the flower from the picture. So, I used Quick Selection Tool to help me, this tool allows me to choose the part of the picture that I would like to delete or keep, even dupliating it, and it is more easier to handle with smal details like the flower.
After selecting the part I want, I simply use the Move Tool to drag the rose to the picture.
Again I go to "Edit" > "Transform" > "Scale" to edit the size of the rose, I also move it to the left lower corner of the bath bomb, so it does not cover the rose in the middle of the bath bomb, but also making it looks nice.
However, the color of the rose is too sharp, and it might take away the attention of the product, so I changed the capacity of the rose from 100% to 71%, so it is lighter in colour but also a bit transparent, it makes the photo looks more dreamy but meanwhile does not take away attentions from the audiences.
I also realized that one rose is not enough for making the picture rich and nice, so I found another rose from the internet. This time I have chosen a white rose, this is because the rose above is too sharp in color, and there is too much red and pink elements in the picture. White could lighten the saturation of the color in the picture, and additionally making it looks fresh and pretty.
I do the same thing with the red rose to the white rose, and this is how it looks after I put them into the picture, it looks richer, not as dull as before, but also attract people's attention to look at the product.
Although white lightens the saturation of the picture, however the contrast is too high and it is still eye catching, therefore, I changed the capacity of the flower from 100% to 85%, I do not have to change it as much as the red rose, because it is lighter in color.
To make the roses look more natural and fit in the picture, I also dropped shadow and effects for them. I used Outer glow because I think it achieves the best outcome with this effect.
Like the first advert I did, I placed the LUSH logo on the underneath corner of the advert, so it symbolizes the brand, but also informing the audiences which company it is.
Text is very important for an advert as they direct the audiences to the idea of it. I used the Horizontal Text Tool to add text to the advert.
This is the setting of the text, the style of the font is LUSH, which is the original font from the brand, so it makes the advert looks more iconic. I also used 70pt for the size of the text so they are not too small but also big enough to attract the attention from the audiences.
I also changed the color of the text. Originally it is black, and I wanted to use white, however, I found out that gray is a good color that makes the poster looks even better.
This is how it looks with gray font, it looks nice however it is not as dreamy as I want it to be. So I go to the Layer log, and add extra effects to the font, I have chosen Luminosity for the font.
This is how it looks with the extra effect, it looks more dreamy as the color darkens and the surrounding of the font slightly shine, it is also very attractive so audiences also pay attention on what the text trying to show. I make it short so audiences can read it very quickly and do not get bored.
Last but not least, I go to "Filter" > "Blur" > " Gaussian Blur" to blur some parts of the rose petals, as it creates a dreamy effect but also tells the audiences that the background is made with rose petals by the shape of the background.
This is how the final advert looks like.
I have to save the work after editing it, I saved it as "Sexy.psd" due to the text and the name of the bath bomb, it allows me to identify which poster it is when I need it or search it from my document.
For my third editing, I have chosen 3 photos from my shot list to combine them into a poster. These photos are all shot by full shot so the head to the foot of the model could be seen.
I want to use a plain pink colour as the background of this advertisement, therefore I have create a background.
First I go to the "File" > "New"
I named the background as "pink bg" which means pink background, and I changed the width to 1920 and the height to 1200, so that it comes out as a rectangular shape which is suitable for my poster.
They also provide me a colour palette to choose a colour for the background, there are many colours to choose which is very flexible for me, there are also lots of pink so that I could choose a suitable pink for my background.
This is the Paint bucket Tool, it allows me fill a space with the same colour, it helps me with filling the colour into the background.
Then I used the Magic wand tool to cut off the background, because I only what the model from the picture. After cutting off the background, I will use the Move Tool to drag the model to the pink background.
Then I could use the Eraser Tool to remove some of the uncut parts from the picture, so it is cleaner and people will not be able to see the bits from the previous picture.
At the same time, I photoshopped this logo I found from the internet, I cut out the white part of the logo using the Magic wand tool, using this tool could help me easily cut out outlined objects such as the word in white.
After combining all the pictures and logo together, I want to add some text to the poster, so it looks more interesting, and gives more idea to the audiences of what LUSH advertises for.
I used the Text tool to do so, from the text tool I could control the size of the words, type of font and also type the words onto the picture. I typed "Our products are freshly handmade" & "100% vegan", which are two ideas of what LUSH's promoting, I can also change the colour of the text, now it is contradicting to the background colour to be clearer, and also its size is suitable to fill in the black spaces between the pictures, makes it looks richer.
However I don't think the words are very natural, and I would like to make more changes to it, to make it fits the poster better. So, I decided to Drop shadows to it. I just have to go "Layers", choose the layer I would like to add shadows on, and this box will appear, I chose "Drop Shadows", and it now looks more clear and obvious, which could attract the audiences's attention better.
This is how looks after shadows on, we could see an obvious difference before and after, the outline of the words are definitely deeper and makes it more dimensional.
After all the editing, this is how the final product looks like.
